day 17 1 John 2:15-17

15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.
17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

This presents the reader of 1 John with a very strong choice to make. Either love God or love the world. You cannot have both. Choosing the world automatically pushes away loving the Father. In the Message Bible it says that loving the world squeezes out the love of the Father. It is as though each person's heart can only contain enough room for one or the other.

Yeshua/Jesus said that to love him is to keep his commandments.

Exodus 20:6 - God shows mercy to those who love Him and keeps his commandments
Leviticus 19:18,24 - we are to love the stranger and God's people like we love ourselves
Deuteronomy 6:5 - we are commanded to love the Lord our God with our entire self
" 7:9 - God is faithful to and keeps His covenants with those who love Him and keeps His commandments
" 10:12,13; 11:1,22; 30:16 - the Lord requires that we fear Him and walk in His ways, serve Him with our whole heart and love Him through keeping His commandments
Psalm 119:127 - we are to love God's commandments more than the purest gold

Matthew 10:37 - Loving God is to be the highest priority in our life
Matthew 22:37-39 - the two greatest commandments tell us that we should love God and our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Luke 6:32-35 - shows us that the love that God wants us to have leads us to love even our enemies
John 14:15 - loving Christ means keeping His commandments, which are the commandments of God

These verses along with many other help to understand that this love of the Father is not a emotional response to God but a steadfast and loyal resolve to follow God regardless of the circumstances.
